This bulletin provides guidance on securing external equipment and accessories to Recreational Vehicles in order to ensure they can withstand the vibration and wind loads that may be encountered during road travel.

Towable Recreational Vehicle Lengths

Caravan Industry Association of Australia conducted a survey earlier this year, asking industry businesses about their practices for specifying the length of a Towable Recreational Vehicle. This survey identified that there are different methods in use for specifying vehicle lengths, which is leading to confusion both within industry and among consumers. Industry businesses have been found to be using 3 different length specifications as shown below:

NOTE: Additional consideration should be given to measurements A,B & C for Recreational Vehicles that extend at the front and/or rear to
create more living space.

Hayman Reese Towing Technical Support Representative Gary Gardiner also attended Caravanning QLD’s recent ‘Pre-Easter Caravan Safety Check’ day and observed numerous Weight Distribution Hitches (WDH) which had been set up incorrectly.

Trailer Breakaway Systems
